STEAMER HERTFORD DELAYED The Federal Line steamer Hertford, which was delayed in loading products at Port Chalmers on Saturday owing to rain, was able to load yesterday between the showers. Wool from the coastal steamer Storm was transhipped to che Hertford. On Saturday afternoon frozen beef was loaded into the overseas vessel, and the balance of the consignment was shipped on Sunday morning in order that it should not be necessary to return it to the freezing works. The Hertford will sail about Thursday for Halifax, London, and West of England ports, MUSSEL BAY DRAINAGE Some weeks ago the Port Chalmers Borough Council decided to apply to the Unemployment Board for a grant towards the carrying out of drainage at iMussel Bay and other work. Last week the town clerk (Mr C. Blackman) and Crs L. F. Smith and T. F. Mackio went to Wellington to interview the Unemployment Board and the Treasury officials. The ■ proposal placed before the board was for a grant to enable the council to employ relief workers with families on the works for five days a week at standard rates of wages. The delegates who went to Wellington reported favourably to a meeting of the council’s Works Committee last night.
