AUCKLAND CLUB

FIRST SOCIAL EVENING The first social gathering of the newlyformed Auckland Club was held last evening in the Somerset Lounge, Savoy Buildings. There was a large attendance, and every person present claimed past residence in Auckland, a few being recent arrivals in this city, while others have resided here for many years. The lounge was very nicely decorated with blooms and coloured electric lights, the whole effect being a very striking one. The president of the club (Mr T. KirkBurnnand) extended a hearty welcome to all present, and said it was hoped they would have a very enjoyable time,

The president and Mrs Kirk-Burnnand acted as hast and hostess.

The evening was spent in games and dancing, interspersed with musical and vocal items. An excellent programme was coutaributed by Messrs Beath and Finlayson’s orchestra and enjoyable items were gh-en by Miss Dorothy Mackay (song), Mr A. Jeavons (song), Mr Lester Holier (monologues), and Mr Maitland M'Cuteheon (violin solo). The accompaniments were played by Mrs Kirk-Bnrn-nand.

Several members were enrolled during the evening. The membership of the club is now nearly 40. It is intended to hold social gatherings at frequent intervals throughout the year.
