. KELLERMAN CUP RACE A "BARBAROUS" EVENT. (Peb United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. March 14. "It is a barbarous race, and the winner should get £50," said Mr S. C. Anderson at the meeting of the Canterbury Swimming Centre, when the Annette Kellcrmau Cup race was under discussion. • It was pointed out that the winner would hold the challenge cup for a year and would also get a gold medal from the New Zealand Council, while the swimmer securing second place and the competitor who recorded fastest time had received nothing. Elaborating on the trying nature of the race, Mr Anderson declared that the winner was blind and deaf, and could not stand when he finished. It was decided, after a short discussion, td give a trophy of one guinea each to T. Newth and J. C. Blakelcy for second place and the fastest time respectively.
