THE EARTHQUAKE
SAFETY OF BUILDINGS REQUEST TO PRIME MINISTER. (Peb United Press Association.) FOXTON, March 14. At a meeting of the Foxton Borough Council alarm was expressed for the safety of certain buildings in the Main street as the result of the earthquake. It was decided to ask the Prime Minister (Mr Forbes) to send a public works engineer to make a survey of the borough with a view to obtaining assistance in necessitous cases. The architect reports that the Town Hall is safe. The top of the rear wall has shifted several inches.
The setting up of a national earthquake fund was recommended. The beach is settling down.
