THE STILL SMALL VOICE

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —The incident mentioned in yom issue of Friday last of a lad who, after 11 years, returned the value of stamps which had been lent to him by a collector, but destroyed, gives one food for thought. The still small voice of conscience at work all the time! The philatelist, however, had a long period in which to ruminate on the wisdom of a kindly act. A lady gives free lodging to a young lad in need, and her reward is cowardly assault and robbery; another lady extends hospitality in her drawing room to a stranger, and her reward is the theft of a much-valued book; a man extends frequent hospitality to his friend, and the reward is the theft of his wife's affections. Would that conscience might do its work in a shorter Space of time than 11 years! How much better if it acted before the deed were done. —I am, etc., M'K.
