WANAKA NOTES
(From Our Own Correspondent.) PEMBROKE, March 12
Some relief from the dry conditions that have prevailed in the Upper Clutha during the : past month was afforded by heavy rain that commenced early on Sunday morning and continued until mid-day. In the evening the wind changed to the south, with'further rniu and hail showers. Farmers are now busy threshing. The returns in most cases arc disappointing owing to late frosts and a prolonged dry spell when the grain came in to ear. CRICKET. Wauaka played Luggate on Saturday and won by 148 runs to 48. J. Bovett (48) and S. Willctts (37) .batted well for Wanaka: ' ; ' WANAKA DOG TRIALS. The Wanaka dog trials were commenced on Saturday on the club's grounds at A strong northwest wind made the sheep difficult to handle: but some excellent work was witnessed by the large attendance present. The only event to reach finality on Saturday was the Short Haul in Class I, in which 20 dogs competed. The result was as follows:-—.1. Anderson's Toby (44J points),l; M. Mntheson's Glen (43 points), 2; J. Anderson's Toby Junior (42 points), 3; J. Anderson's Toby Again (41 points), 4. The trials will be concluded to-day and to-morrow. A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.
The success of the inaugural show of the Upper Olutha Agricultural and Pastoral Association to be held on the Point broke Domain on Saturday next is assured if the weather is favourable. Th<) comprehensive programme issued tby. the society appeals to exhibitors in all branches of farming and domestic science and entries are already numerous.
