The Birmingham Corporation has lost the run of a house and with it a legacy. In 1809 Mt Joseph Farror, a Birmingham auctioneer, made known his undying admiration for the victor of Trafalgar by leaving in his will a legacy of sixpence a week, to be obtained from the rent of a house foi the maintenance of the statue of Lord Nelson. The money was to be devoted to a periodic cleaning of the statue for all time. In the course of events the house changed hands many times, and as the district where it stood has long been a manufacturing area there is every probability that it has been demolished and the site used for a factory. No one seems to know what became of the bouse, with the result that the legacy has not been forthcoming and the Nelson btutno has not had a wash for more than a. century.
