WEST HARBOUR BOROUGH

MONTHLY. COUNCIL MEETING The monthly meetirig of the West Harbour Borough Council was held at Ravensbourne last night; present—the Mayor (Mr T. H. Harridge), Crs A. Smith, T. Rodger, A. D. Asher* F. Venn, J. L. Page, J. Robb, C George, 0. 71. Hayward, and J. M. Kay. The Mayor mentioned that Cr Kay had been transferred to the Finance Committee and Cr Rodger had become chairman of the Works Committee, and Cr George chairman of the Lighting Committee. The Mayor also welcomed Cr Page to the council table. Arising out of the minutes of a special meeting, Cr Smith asked if it was right to ask the road men to work 48 bouts a week.—" It's the usual thing," remarked the town clerk,, and nothing further was said. *

Mr J. F. Robertson, hon. secretary of the Ravcnsbourne Football Club, wrote applying for a lease of the playing areas and pavilion, as granted last season.—Granted, on the same conditions. The Finance Committee recommended that accounts amounting to £214 5s 6d bo passed for payment. —The report was adopted. J The Works CommitteQ recommended that 60 yards of quarry dust be procured and spread in Castle street and that channelling be done.—Agreed to.

It was decided to write to.the Harbour Board and the Railways Department with reference to the dangerous stace of the entrance to the railway siding, the Harbour Board and the Railways Department to supply the material and the council the labour. The Reserves Committee recommended that the. zig-zags in the various streets be cleaned and dug over and that the triangle at the corner of Bay View terrace and Montague street be cleaned, dug over, levelled, and sown down in grass. The committee also inspected the recreation grounds, and would like the outer edges of both grounds put in tho same condition as the. present cricket area.—The report Was adopted. The inspector reported as follows on the work done during the month: —The men have been engaged in spreading metal on the newly tar-sealed parts, while on the warm days all parts of the Main road were spread. The Tunnel Hill has been pitched and, the nine-inch drain laid, leaving everything in readiness for the tar sealing of that part. The cleaning of the water tables and grass cutting have also been carried out here. The cleaning of footpaths, etc., has been carried out at St. Leonards. The work here is not very fast as the men have been most of their time engaged in blinding the new sealed parts and there are not many men on. Work has been carried out on the new road at Maia and a big improvement made. This gang has been removed to the Main road and is laying the> drain from the hall to the culvert; this work is just about completed. Other works carried out are: Drain in Ross . street laid and cleaned up, stop erected, zig-zags cleaned, repairs in Harbour terrace, Royal terrace, Stanley street, Grant street, Athol place, Junction road, and Sullivan's, also stone for kerbing and pitchers for water tables got ready, while the concrete channels on the Main road have been repaired. The following work remains to be done: Culverts at Sullivan's, Burkes (2), and Ascog road; concrete channel on the Main road, also corner widened at, Sullivan's and two culverts at Maia.—The report was received.
