Miss Ruby Muir, assistant in the Home Science 'Department of the Christchurch Technical College, has been, awarded a Home Science Bursary at Otago University, and has taken up her residence there. . r.t * &

Last week an enjoyable tea parly was given by Mrs L. W. Bagley, 346 George street, for Mrs R. Merrett Wilkinson, who is leaving shortly for a trip to England and the Continent. Those present were Alesdames, ,R. Merrett Wilkinson, S. Bowman, Roy Fraser, Frank Btatham, J, M'Dougall, and P. Glasson, ,and Misses Campbell' (Timaru), Lake, and Stella Smith.

A pleasant evening was spent at 74 Clyde street otr Thursday night, when a number of friends assembled in the form of a surprise party, to bid farewell to Miss Nancy Rowntree, .who has beep transferred to Christchurch. Airs Bradley, on behalf of the members of the Ladies’ National Reserve M.R.C., presented Miss Rowntree with a small gi|t, and wished her good luck in her new position. Miss Rowntree suitably responded.

Airs Percy Priest wag hostess at a threetable bridge party on Thursday evening at her home in St. Clair, given in honour of Mrs G. W. Humphries, of Gisborne, who is at present the guest of her sister, Miss Ensor. Other players were Alesdames Aufrere fenwick, Bernard Dawson, Guy W. Garrett, Alex Duncan, J. A. Last week the* flowers in the Savoy were red and blue. This week they are red, blue, and yellow—red dahUas and gladioli, blue cornflowers and scabious, and yellow daisies growing in green boxes and towering high and graceful over the rest. After,the first night, of “The Alerry Widow” on Saturday, Mr and Airs Warrington Taylor gave a delightful little supper party at their, residence, George street, at which some of the members ot the company were present. _ . Lucy MTntosh, and Geraldine Doorly (Melbourne),, and Messrs Herbert Browne, Horj Thomas, John Farrell, Stanley Grant, and Charles Wilton.

A fitting close to » successful afterncmn of golf was the dance given m the St. Clair Golf Clubhouse on Saturday evening after the annual Sidey Cup match Stayed on the St. Clair links and won by lr and Mrs G. * # * A wedding of considerable interest to residents of Gore and the surrounding districts was celebrated at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, Gore, when Winifred, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Columb, Hyde street, Gore, and Vincent, second son of Mr and Mrs M. Fitzgerald, Devon street, were united -in the holy bonds of matrimony. Nuptial mass was celebrated by the Rev. Father F. Columb, brother of the bride, who also performed the marriage ceremony. The bride was charmingly attired in a frock of ivory lace cut on diagonal lines with boatshaped neck finished with orange blossoms. The skirt hung in a graceful flare to the ground, and formed a long train scalloped at hem. The sleeves were fully puffed just above , the elbow and continued in tight-fitting lines to a peak over the back of the hand. The beautifullyembroidered veil was caught to the head and arranged with orange blossoms. A charming -bouquet completed the ensemble. The bridesmaid was Miss Mona Walsh (Menzie's Ferry), cousin of the bride, who wore a dainty frock of shell pink sprigged organdi flared from the hips and finished with large velvet bow. She wore a wide organdi hat, lace mittens and shoes to tone, and carried a suitable bouquet. During the ceremony Qounod’s “ Avc Maria ” was sung by Miss K. Kelly, while the " Wedding March ” wasplayedby Miss S. Inder. A pretty interlude was provided- during the signing of the register, Miss Eunice Columb, cousin of the bride, presenting her with a silver horseshoe. Subsequently the wedding breakfast was held in Hoffman’s Tea Rooms, where upwards of 100 guests assembled. Tn the unavoidable absence of the Rev. Father Tylee, the Rev. Father Woods (Riversdale) presided. When,Mr and Mrs Fitzgerald left for the north on their honeymoon, Mrs Fitzgerald was wearing an oyster sand crepe ensemble with snake skin shoes and hat to tone.
