MUSIC TEACHERS' ASSOCIATION

OTAGO BRANCH The twenty-ninth annual report of the Music Teachers' Association of New Zealand (Otago branch), states, inter alia, that the outstanding event of # the past year was the tenth annual conference of Dominion Musicians, which was held m Dunedin' from May 10 to May;. 12. Musicians from all parts of the Dominion came to attend the conference and take part in the public performances. The Otago branch had the honour of sponsoring the idea of bolding concerts during conference, and the result more than justified itself,: in spite of the fact that a financial loss was experienced.; Never before had so many of the leading musicians of New Zealand gathered together to make music, the splendid programmes rendered remaining aS a most pleasant memory even at this distance of time. It is unfortunate that the musical life of the Dominion has lost two who assisted at the celebrations —Messrs John Bishop and George Eilwood. Regret is expressed at the death of Mr J. Dalmores M Donald, one. of the foundation members when the society was founded in 1005. Five new members have joined during the year. With .'.all-dele-tions;'the list will number 86, The balance sheet shows a credit of £33 15s 6d ordinary account, (less liabilities), and £2l 3s 8d special reserve account.

The branch is pleased to welcome Mr C. A. Martin on his return from a lengthy visit to England and the Continent, and also to welcome as new members Madame Winnie Fraser and Mr David Whisker, who have transferred from Canterbury and Auckland respectively. Every endeavour will be made during the coming year to obtain rebates and concessions for members in a similar manner to last year, and recommendations will be made to the incoming council that, it is hoped, will still further widen the scope and usefulness of the Otago branch.
