(Received March 4, at 6.30 p.m.) Tests of 40,000 children in 700 schools in Australia which Were carried out for the Australian Council for Education Research, reveal that boys solve arithmetical problems more easily than girls, but girls are superior in addition. The Queensland children show better average attainment in arithmetic than the children in other States. FATALLY INJURED. ' STRUCK BY 151 b SHOT. BRISBANE, March 3. (Received March 3, at 6.30 p.m.) Accidentally struck on the head by a 151 b shot, which was thrown by a competitor at a sports meeting, Frank Perske, aged 50, was fatally injured. Perske was bending down, measuring the distance of a shot thrown by a competitor, when another competitor hurled the shot. Perske was too preoccupied and failed to hear the warning cries. The shot struck him on the back of the head. «
