ORPHANS ENTERTAINED
MOTOR CLUB'S OUTING.,, The Otago Motor Club's annual out-: ing has come to be looked on as.a redletter day by the children of the various local orphanges, and some evidence of its continued popularity can be gained from the fact that on. . Saturday afternoon no fewer than 70 cars, belonging to members were required to trans; port the club's 350 small guests to Wingatui racecourse.
The rain which fell during the afternoon marred the outing to a certain extent, but the Dunedin Jockey Club had put the tea rooms and the totatisaror •house at the club's disposal, so that when the children were unable to play out' of doors they had ample shelter. During the afternoon games were played, and at intervals, the youngsters were regaled with sweets, cakes, fruit, and soft drinks, of which an abundance had < been provided by the club and several generous donors. . • I Td the Dunedin .Jockey Club the Motor Club is indebted for the use of the! racecourse, and thanks are also due to Messrs Cadbury Fry Hudson, through whose generosity each child received a tablet of chocolate, to Mr T. Sagar for a welcome gift of a sack of■ peanuts, to an anonymous donor who contributed three cases of fruit, and' to Miss Theomin and her assistants for their services in dispensing refreshments, ' .
