GARDEN FETE. Misfortune ;dogged the footsteps _of .the Milton branch of the Royal Health Society in connection with the garden fete in aid 1 of the branch's depleted exchequer. The function was postponed last December owing to an epidemic,of illness amongst the children, whilst; yesterday afternoon the fates were unkind, heavy, intermittent rain showers and cold winds in the early stages militating against a large attendance of the public. The unfavourable climatic conditions caused drastic curtailment of the prearranged programme, which included many • novel items. "Big Brother Bill," the popular conductor of the " hour at 4YA, was present by invitation of the' committee, and received a come' from the youngsters. There tfere two parades of children in fancy costume, and of children's pets, and many.unique designs in fancy costumes were worn. " Bil Brother Bill" officiated, .as judge in the competitive events, and his aWarde were as follows: costume, Garry Jeffery (golfer).
