DEATH FROM INJURIES WELL-KNOWN FOREMAN SHIP-v WRIGHT. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, February 25. The death of Arthur John Willetts, aged 67, a foreman shipwright, occurred in the Auckland Hospital on Saturday evening. The deceased -was well known on the Auckland waterfront. He narrowly escaped being drowned last Thursday when he slipped while working on the vessel Baroona and fell into the harbour between the vessel and the wharf. In falling he struck his head against the : wharf and was rendered unconscious. Mr Willetts 'd’as eventually pulled out of the water with the aid of a rope. When taken, to hospital he ■was in a serious condition, as he was suffering from severe head injuries and', concussion. STRpCK BY RAILWAY ENGINE DEATH IN HOSPITAL FOLLOWS. (Per United Press Association.) HAMILTON, February 24. The death occurred in the Waikato Hospital last evening of James Joll, a plasterer, aged 65. When walking home he was struck by the engine of a goods train at Seddon road crossing. He appeared to walk into the front of the engine as it drew abreast. It struck him a glacing blow that hurled him to the side of the line. His injuries at the time appeared of a minor nature, but his condition steadily grew worse, and he died last night, A CAR COLLISION % THREE PERSONS INJURED. v ■ (Peb United Press Association;) MARTON, February 24. As the result of a collision this morning between ears driven by Mr, Imlay Saunders, of Wanganui, and Mr Holland, jun., of Greatford, on the Bulls-Turakina road, Mr Holland, sen., a passenger in his son’s car, was taken to hospital suffering from injuries to the head and back. Mr Holland, jun., and another passenger, Mr P. Gibbons, Were discharged after treatment. Mr Saunders and his wife escaped with abrasions. Both cars were damaged almost beyond repair. Lucillo Davanzo, aged 28, was killed instantly near Shannon ,on Saturday afternoon when a motor .cycle which he was riding was struck by a special goods train and hurled 40ft. DEATH IN HOSPITAL (Per United Press Association.) ASHBURTON, February 24. Alfred James Ellen, aged 59, an inmate of the Tuarangi Old Men’s Home, died in the hospital last night following injuries to his head, resulting, it-is alleged, from a blow received in a struggle with another inmate last Monday. He never regained consciousness. SHUNTER INJURED While engaged in shunting operations at Seacliff on Saturday, Albert Southey, aged 25, employed by the New Zealand Railways, had his left foot run over by the wheel of one of the trucks. He was admitted to the Dunedin Public Hospital at 7.30 p.m. that day’ suffering from severe lacerations of the foot. HEAD INJURIES RECEIVED Thomas Farrell, aged 68 years, residing at 101 Maclaggan street, was taken to the Public Hospital by the ambulance at 6 p.m. on Saturday suffering from head injuries, apparently received as the result of a fall in the street.
