The Birmingham Corporation has lost the run of a house and with it a legacy. In 1809 Mr Joseph Farror, a Birmingham auctioneer, made known his undying admiration for the victor of Trafalgar by leaving in his will a legacy of sixpence a week, to be obtained from the rent of a house foi the maintenance of the statue of Lord Nelson. The money was to be devoted to a periodic cleaning of the statue for all time. In the course of events the house changed hands many times, and as the district where it stood has long been a manufacturing area there is every probability that it has been demolished and' the site used for a factory. No one seems to know %vhat became of the house, with the result that the legacy has not been forthcoming and the Nelson statue has not had a wash for more than a hentuty. ' V ■
