Ministerial The Prime Minister (Mr G. W. Forbes) left Wellington by the Lyttelton ferry steamer last evening. He will make an" extended tour of Otago and Southland. The Minister of Finance (Mr J. G. Coates) returned to Wellington by the Limited express from Auckland yesterday morning. ■The Postmaster-general (Mr A. Hamilton) left for the South Island by ferry steamer last evening. Mr Hamilton, who will visit Southland, and later the Nelson district, expects to return to Wellington about the middle of next week. The Minister of Public Works (Mr J. Bitchener) left Wellington for Picton yesterday afternoon. Major T. H. King left Dunedin yesterday morning on his return to Wellington. Messrs E. Sullings and H. Brooks, two Australian bowlers who have been taking part in the Dominion tournament, commenced their homeward journey on the north express yesterday morning. Mr and Mrs J. R. Sobels, who also came from Australia for the tournament, proceeded to Timaru, and intend visiting Mount Cook. Mr W. T. Hazlett. was a passenger by the north express yesterday morning bound for Wellington, whence he will leave for Melbourne.

Mr J. Dunlop, of Edendale, passed through Dunedin yesterday morning en route to Wellington, where he will attend a meeting of the Dairy Produce Board.

A Sydney Press Association cable message states that Lord Baden-Powell is to attend the Melbourne centenary celebrations.

Dr William Crawford Watson, of Harrogate, England, who has been visiting the Southern Lakes district and the Eglinton Valley, arrived in Dunedin last night, and is staying at the Grand Hotel.

Mr J. W. Walker, who has been appointed clerk of works during the erection of the new post office at Dunedin, was in charge of the rehabilitation of public buildings in Napier and Hastings. At a meeting of the director’s of Skipper’s, Ltd., on Tuesday, Mr A. E. Smith, of Skippers, was appointed advisory director of the company. Mr Smith has been mining for over 40 years on the Shotover River, where the company’s claim is situated.

Dr Walter Williams, president of the University of Missouri, Columbia, United States, whb is on a tour of the world, is due to arrive in Wellington about February 20. Dr Williams, better known as Dean Williams, is the founder of the first organised University School of Journalism in the world offering a degree in journalism. The school was established at the University of Missouri, Columbia, United States, in 1908. He is also the founder of the Press Congress of the World, and ‘was its first president, from which office he retired at the sessions held at Lausanne, Switzerland, in 1920,, and was succeeded by Mr Robert Bell, of Christchurch. Dr Williams is accompanied by his wife, Mrs Sarah Lockwood Williams, who is the author of “ Twenty Years of Education for Journalism.” She is also a practical journalist and holds the B.J. decree. Mr C. J. Ronaldson, of Christchurch, the newly-appointed president of the New Zealand Red Cross Society, is a son of the Rev. William Ronaldson, one of New Zealand’s early missionaries, and a cousin of Florence Nightingale. Mr Ronaldson has been a manager in the service of the National Bank of ■New Zealand for many years. He has always taken an active interest in Red Cross work in Invercargill and Christchurch. Ho is president of the Canterbury Centro of the New Zealand Red Cross Society and one of the trustees of the St. John Ambulance Association. Mr Ronaldson is also a past district governor for the Dominion of Rotary International.
