TROTTING

By Sentinel.

Acceptances for the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting close to-day. The Ashburton Cup, of 400sovs, 4.30 class, attracted 19 nominations representing a fairly good class. Indian Author and Fairyland have been sent north to fulfil-engagements at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting. Morello had no chance with War Buoy in the New Zealand Derby, but is booked to meet him again at Ashburton. Young Travis shaped' well in a workout on Tuesday with Desert Alaiden and Norman Fox. He gave them a start and went 3min 23 3-sseb to win at the end of a mile and a-half.

Roddy went 4min 25sec when lie won at Forbury Park, and should help to make things interesting in the Ashburton Handicap from a 4miri 30sec mark. Working the reverse way at-Addington on Tuesday, Indianapolis travelled over two miles in 4min 40 2-ssec without being asked to extend himself. .The colt has done . well since the Addington spring meeting. Silver de Oro went 4min 21 2-ssec when she ran second to Roddy at Forbury Park and 4min 24sec when beaten by Blue Mountain at the same meeting. She has a chance to go a good race from a 4min 28sec mark at Ashburton.

J. Simpson, the Central Otago horseman, is at present, handling a likelylooking type of pacer, a two-year-old colt from a Tracey mare by Prince Pointer. Ayrmont Chimes shaped well in a . private trial, and got off the schopling list. A race in public is a rather different test, and it will be interesting to note how he behaves if started at the Ashburton meeting. Reports from Auckland state that Peg. away has been doing so well that it is confidently expected that he will give Indianapolis a good race in the Auckland Trotting Cup. Pegaway will be probably pegging away—after Indianapolis. The field in the Wakanui Handicap at Ashburton are ranged in alphabetical order on the front mark, and almost exhaust the alphabet in naming them. There are 42 horses in the, field at present in a 3min "45sec class, and some of Them may never step above the first rung in the ladder of fame "on the trotting track.

George Rey is credited with beating Muriel de Oro over a mile and a-quarter on Tuesday. He went 2min 45 4-ssec after covering the first mile in 2min 12 2-ssec. Muriel de Oro can,-’ however, pull out a better rate of speed than the times mentioned. George Rey is on a Smin 22sec mark at Ashburton. Commencing with good fields in the lightharness races oh the Hororata programme, followers of the sport will have a multitude of horses to follow during the holiday, meetings. In the north the Auckland Trotting Cup meeting will occupy attention. The Ashburton Trotting Club appears to be booked for amunusually good meeting, and the Gore Trotting Club will also be in the pleasing position of being able to present their patrons with a good card. The Winton Trotting Club has also met with a good response from owners, and it may be taken for granted that good fields will be .seen out at the Wyudham and Invercargill "meetings. At Addington the Canterbury Park Club will be in evidence at the New Year, and there' will also be some sport bn the West Coast. The congested calendar will keep enthusiasts busy unless they decide to pick out one or two of the best and confine their attention to a select few. '

The pacing gelding Silver Bingen, who is trained at Epsom by E. D. Kennerley for his father, J. J. Kennerley, of Christchurch, has been purchased by Mrs 1. E. Sweetapple, of Auckland;'; Since coming to-Auckland, Silver Bingen has shown much improvement (says . “Abaydos ”), and for consistency his record is hard to beat. He has started seven times in succession _ for three wins, two seconds, and two thirds, and with an element of luck in some of his races his record of wins would have been larger. The pacer, who will remain in Kennerley’s stable, is working in attractive style , for his coming Auckland engagements, and in a mile and a-half race / he should hold bright prospects. As' he is developing stamina, he may do well later in two-mile races. ROGILLA INJURED (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) SYDNEY, December 14. (Received Dec. 14, at 0.30 p.m.) The racehorse Eogilla injured his head while running in a paddock at Newcastle. The injury was rather severe and the horse is coming to Sydney to a veterinary. -f
