Tuesday,; promises to provide some exceptionally , interesting competition. In the intermediate boys class, there are some particularly promising lads, including such sound o F me F,® as the Jarvis brothers, Jack O.Driscoll, J. Barry, and 6. Munro, .although,, or course, Walter Jarvis,;who ; will he swimming for the last time as an intermediate in championship swimming, would appear to be assured of retaining-his 100 ana 220 yards crowns. It would not be surprising, indeed, to see him turn- in round about 57 seconds for the ,100- yards. Probably his strongest opposition ; over , these two distances will come from his. brother Sydney, who, after his record-breaking swim over the 100 yards at\ the beginning of the season, looks, capable of breaking the minute,, Walter’s best- time for, the furlong is 2mih 38 2-sscc, and as Sydney has, aiready cut out the (distance, in- only two. seconds under this time, a . great tussle should; ensue -betw-eep the pair for the 220' Yards Championship.',- , r J O’Driscoll, whose rise on; the swimming ladder has been somewhat meteoric, is- another. good prospect, among the, intermediate boys, but while it is. doubtful if he can hold the Jar vises, over the 100 and 220 yards, his present form indicates . that they: will find him a stiff proposition in v the quarter-jijdle. . ..The ’ Breaststrdlie Championship' alipssems. to .be ,within' pis reach, and it is probable • that. the issue in this event , will be between him and ■Munro.- ' v; vv ;v ? , ■ ''v’vT T Neil Williams, a brother of the present intermediate boys’ diving champion, has been doing great-'work on the .boards during the past few weeks. “ He is, a game little diver, have- a' ga; at .anything, and already he shows exceptional promise bn. the mbre' difficult numbersv-Tj. ,Eckhold. who was rUnner-Up at the pa’tional Ghanipipnship'Aineetihg > last; Janu-. ary, .will probably? fight: out the. issue with .Williams, but it is; doubtful if he ; Will show . up, in -the harder . dives as well as. Williams, although he is Va finished little exponent of the plain diving- ', . Miss rMayig Pockson’s fPrm apd -past performances entitle her to more than passing notice for the Intermediate Girls Breaststroke Championship,.- and' at the moment of writing, it is difficult to , see who will beat her. Miss ' Nancy Olds, however, will certainly push her along; if she elects to compete. • ; -XisC Among the junior boys : sprinters as C. M'Gregor, D; .Tuekwell, and-W. Williams .will .probably::contest; .the freestyle' events,' and it would not be surprising': to' see the final sprints between the’ two first-named, both : of whom have been swimming wall:’ for the past. few weeks. ;■ • '

Cox well his success, as‘he has. not‘ as yet missed one club Session; and, moreover, he is a,conscientious worker. Little Joyce,Anderson, will: soon . be up a grade if she .continues. to wptk as at present, and the. same might, be said of - Miss M. Steven and J. V' . . - KIWI. .; j/v.v With the championships only a.few days away, the intermediates and juniors have been speeding up on the final stages Of their training, and the seniors have, also been doing good work, in view Of .thehandicap events coming up tor. decision. In the junior boys’ class the dub will.be represented in all events by C. ,M Gregor and D. Tuekwell. The latter has not been so regular in attendance lately, y but M'Gregor has been, training steadily. ile has stiffened up. a bit in his arm action, but has been endeavouring to relax more and Reg. Geddes should have him in good fettle for next week’s events , The club is deeply indebted to Mr 1. Mnckillop, a member, of the Otter Swimming Club, London, for the very interest*, ing talk to the club water polo players oh Tuesday night, and v all members- of polo teams are- asked* to attend to : mght,. when Mr Mackillop will gives, further hints to the players. Jack Pickard has .been (devoting some attention to breaststroke, and,' with- concentration, would fie a- useful swimmer. ? ; •; ~ ".

Miss Lorna Gillies is a very promising intermediate, ..and should not enter competition, She Tacks confidence in her own ability, hut-is now quite capable of giving a, good account of ;herself in the interclub v _ t Reg. Geddes, Miss;M:. Bouitoh, Mr A. Findlay, C, J..Leeden, and P. E. Mathieson were all kept very busy on Tuesday night with the coaching groups, an£ Mathieson later found time to do some fast laps on the backstroke. The club is proud of the. plucky rescue performed by Cyril, Leqden at St. Kilda last Saturday, and it .was just what one would expect of him . to -endeavour to passTt offlightly by declining, to- give his name. Lowe, who, .’although they , have not as, yet patronised the -club hour, are quite fair for .Juniors. It is pleasing "to • note Haines has rejoined, and if R. V D. .Hook avails himself .of ' the excellent coaching : pr.o.yided by the club ,he should- be . worth a "place in one of the handicap, relays. -U A. Manning is in the water 'again after a-spell of a few weeks. ' ■' ‘ The next race for the aggregate cup will be- the 33 J-3 Yards Handicap. Otjigb Centre contains a Primary Schools’ Relay Race. It is how three, years since the club dropped this race owing to the insufficient support accorded’ it by the. schools, but now that the carnival ’is to ■■ be held in February, and ?at the peak of the season/.,the support bught to be forthcoming.
