ASSEMBLY’S OVERTURES REJECTED. , (Per United Pbess Association.} PALMERSTON N., December 13. At a large congregational meeting of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church held to-night to hear the moderator of the General Assembly (the Right Rev. D. D. Scott) deliver the assembly’s desire to see a reconciliation between the minister, Mr G. T. Brown, and the congregation, a motion was carried by a large majority reaffirming support of the office-bearers. A special meeting of the General Assembly was held in Wellington last week to discuss this dispute. The dissent in the church has revolved mostly around the minister’s motor car allowance, and the culmination was a secies of charges based on Mr Brown’s conduct at various meetings, which were laid by about 14 officebearers, who bold the view that he is.not fit to retain his position. After reviewing the crisis, the assembly reversed the decision of the Wanganui Presbytery, which bad dissolved- the pastoral tie between Mr Brown and St. Andrew’s. Church. The. moderator (the Right Rev.’ D. D. Scott) was requested to convey to the congregation the "feeling of the Gene. : ral Assembly, which was that there should be a further attcpipt at co-opera-tion between the minister and the officebearers. ;
