PLAINTIFF AWARDED DAMAGES (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, November 30. Damages amounting to £ls, and costs, were awarded by Mr W. F. Stilwell, S.M., to-day against J. T. Owen in a slander action brought by T. H. Johnston. Plaintiff alleged that defendant in public hearing on September 5 used the words: “ I see they put you in gaol for stealing fruit. That’s where they ought to keep you ” ; when plaintiff had not been in gaol, but another man of the same name had been before the court for stealing fruit from an auction mart.
