LAWRENCE NOTES

(From Our Own Correspondent.) LAWRENCE, November 30. PRESENTATIONS. A meeting of citizens was held in the Council Chambers on. Wednesday night to bid farewell to Mr R. A. Pnsk, who has been manager of the local branch of the Bank of New Zealand for 14 years, and who is leaving to take up a similar position at North Dunedin. _ Ihe Mayor (Mr J. K. Simpson) presided, and expressed the citizens’ and business people’s appreciation of his business ability and uniform civility in his responsible position, and also spoke of his association with the many sporting bodies of the town. Mr Simpson' ask«jM him to accept a well-filled wallet as a token of respect. At St. Patricks Hall Mr and Mrs Prisk Were entertained by the members of St. Patrick’s Church. The Rev. Father Scanlon presided. A musical programme was submitted. The chairman referred to the guests’ active interest m the church, and asked them to accept as a farewell gift from the congregation a solid leather suitcase and a travelling rU The Tennis Club gave a farewell afternoon to Miss M. Prisk at the tennis courts. The president (Mr D. G. Christopher), on behalf of members, presenting her with a xylonite manicure set as a memento of her association with the Lawrence Tennis Club. Mr E A. Winchester, the new manager of the Bank of New Zealand, has arrived and taken over his duties. Mr Prisk and family leave for Dunedin on Friday. WIIENUAKOA SPORTS. The Whenuakoa Sports Committee met on Monday night to finalise its programme for the sports to be held on January 2. It was decided to add, a tug-of-war —six teams to compete or no event—and also a Polo Race, on the same conditions, good, prize money being given. THE WEATHER. The rainfall for November was 3.29 m on 12 days, as against 1.47 m on 16 days in November last year. The weather (luring the month has been very variable, with a surprisingly large number of frosts for this time of the year.
