THE FRENCH TARIFF
SURTAX ON BRITISH GOODS
REGARDED AS UNFAIR. LONDON, November IC. The Paris correspondent of the Financial News says: It is reliably reported that the British Government has given notice to France that unless the 15 per cent, exchange surtax on British goods is removed within one month, a customs duty will be imposed on all French goods. The British viewpoint is that the surtax is discriminatory, since it was not applied to the United States, and is unfair, as no surtax was imposed on French goods during the depreciation of the franc.
