GREEN ISLAND RELIEF It has been decided to give the children of the Green Island unemployed a Christmas treat, and in order to raise funds for this,- an “ Old Time ” Dance will be held in the local Town Hall on Wednesday, December 6. The programme will consist of old time dances and the music will be supplied by Smith’s Jubilee Orchestra. As a considerable sum of money will be required, the Mayor (Mr W, T. Smellie) would welcome subscriptions, which- may be handed in to the town clerk. OLD-TIME DANCE The Dunedin Old-time Dance Committee will hold a dance in the Early Settlers’ Hall on Monday night, and has decided to devote one-third of the proceeds to the Mayor’s Christmas treat for children of the unemployed. Nixon; ; reading matter, Mr Aitken (Gore). ATTITUDE OF THE CHURCH UNITED POLICY ADVOCATED. (Per United Press Association.) HAWERA, November 17. The Taranaki-Wanganui Methodist Synod Assembly reaffirmed the text of the Dominion Committee’s recommendations in reference to the unemployed situation. A resolution was also carried —“ That this synod believes there is a Christian solution of the problem, and that no solution other than a Christian solution will prove satisfactory. The synod therefore suggests that stops bo taken to call a conference of accredited representatives of the churches to formulate a scheme and evolve a policy to which the united Christian churches throughout the country will rally. To this end (he synod asks the president of the Methodist Conference to act: along the lines suggested.”
