YOUNG CRIMINALS

NUMBERS IN AMERICA GIRL’S BAD RECORD. LOS ANGELES, November 7. “ The number of young people who commit serious crime is appalling,” said Mr Bowron, Superior Judge, to-day, in sentencing a blonde, Burmah Adams, aged 19, to an indeterminate period of imprisonment up to 30 years. “To-day,” added the judge, “it is the exception to have before the court a person of mature years charged with robbery, burglary, or motor car theft.” He went on to state that the accused girl had had the advantage of a good home, honest parents, and a good education, yet she had been convicted of a dozen felonies, including robbery with assault.

The gangster companion of the girl had been killed by the police -when she was captured driving his car. “I am going to pamper these young criminals no longer,” said the Judge. “ They must take some other punishment than being sent on their way with kindly advice.”
