DAY OF THE EXPERT
SOLVING CURRENT PROBLEMS WELCOME TO PROFESSOR TOCKER. ' (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, September 20. The increasing tendency the world ovef to seek the aid of experts in efforts to overcome difficulties was the subject of comment by Mr C. T. Aschman, chairman of Canterbury College Board of Governors, when speaking at the welcome home from the W r orld Economic Conference to Professor Tocker. , Mr Aschman said: “ I can state on behalf of Canterbury College, and I think on behalf of the University of New Zealand, that, if it can add to the sum of human knowledge by allowing its officers to take part in assisting in the solution of national difficulties; it is, and will be, glad to do so. It would surprise most of you if I told you of the work that Canterbury College is doing nt the request of those outside it, especially on the scientific side. An appeal for assistance by the Government or organisations is not the asking of favours, but the claiming of a right, and tho more that right is exercised the better will the governing authorities be pleased.”
