MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Otago Education Board was commenced yesterday morning and was attended by Messrs J. Wallace (chairman), P. M'Kmlay, D. C. Cameron, W. M. Cooper, R. H. S. Todd, G. Livingstone, W. R. Brugh, D. T. Fleming, and John Sheppard. SCHOOL IMPROVEMENTS. The Macandrew Road Committee applied for a subsidy for repairing asphalt, the cost of the work bejng estimated at £7 18s 68.—The application was granted. The Awamoko Committee’s application for a subsidy for top-dressing asphalt, estimated to cost £lO, was also granted. ■ The Livingstone Committee asked that the interior of the school should be painted.—lt was decided to carry out the work if the committee would find onethird of the cost. It was decided to carry out renovations at the residence at Mornington at a cost of £l4. . , ~ The Hillend Committee applied for the enlargement of the school, as there were 36 children on the roll. —The architect reported that to extend the building 4ft would cost about £Bs.—The matter was held over in the meantime. The Wakari Committee applied for a partition in one room. —The architect reported that a temporary light partition, which would mean also an additional stove, would cost about £l7, utilising men under the No. 5 scheme now working at the school.— I The application was granted. The Waitati Committee applied for the installation of a septic tank. The architect reported that an adequate water supply would be necessary. The necessary alterations to buildings and water supply, etc., would cost £135. If an electric motor pump were installed and a pipe line led in from the creek, an additional £*o would be required—The request was held over pending the receipt of a report from a special committee. . MEMORIAL TO MR RENNIE. The Albany Street Ex-pupils’ Association was granted permission to place a memorial to Mr James Rennie in the new school. HIGH STREET SCHOOL. The High Street Committee applied for the installation of an automatic stoker. The architect reported that machines could be obtained at from £lO5 to £l2O, and that savings of from 40 per cent, to 60 per cent, could be made in fuel. It was decided to install a machine if satisfactory arrangements could be made with the committee. The committee also asked that the interior of the school should be painted. The architect reported that the cost of painting the first floor would be £B6 and that an expenditure of £ll7 would be required to paint the ground floor. It was decided that if the committee would find one-third of the cost the first floor should be painted this year. TECHNICAL COLLEGE MANAGERS. Mr L. Sanderson was re-elected to the board of managers of the Technical College as the representative of the Education Board.
