SALARY CUTS

QUESTION OF RESTORATION

PROPOSAL VIEWED WITH FAVOUR

(Per United Press Association.)

AUCKLAND, September 20. Both the Hospital Board and the Harbour Board yesterday discussed the advisability of restoring the salary cuts. The Hospital Board rejected a motion for the immediate restoration of the 10 per cent, cut on all salaries up to £450 in favour of an amendment that restoration be considered when next year’s estimates are being framed. It was pointed out that the board had been forced by the Minister of Health to impose the .10 per cent, cut, but it had refused to impose the second cut on nurses, although all the other boards had done so. The chairman (Mr W. Wallace) said he believed the board would unanimously restore the cuts next year. The Harbour Board decided to give early consideration to salaries and wages and the conditions of its employees, the opinion being expressed that the-economy policy had been carried too far in some quarters.
