CYCLING
The Otago Amateur Cycling Club held its race last Saturday from Green Island to Clarendon and return—a distance of 53 miles. The race was full of incident, and was won by D. M'Callum, who also secured fastest time. His win was a popular one, and will give him confidence in the 50-Mile Race, Punctures, were the order of the day, J. Blackxe, u. Foster, and being hindered by mishaps of this sort. After mending one, Seque had another a little further along the road. This rider also had a spill, and Lucas crashed at the turn. All riders intending to compete next Saturday should take heed and see that their tyres ad’ e in good condition and also to. carry outfits with them, as every rider finishing within the time limit will secure a certificate. A rider who is a member of a team should finish even if he is last, as by doing so be may make his team the winners. The Southland contingent is comprised of the following riders, most of them being well known here. They are; —J. Flynn, L. Johnson, J. Robinson, C. Robinson, D. Patton, A. Targuse, L. Bloy, G. Elliot, C. Wilson, A. Jackson, and N. Pickford. This team is the strongest sent north for many years, and is expected to upset a few • local predictions. It Southland does not win the teams’ race it will certainly be very hard. Two wellknown Christchurch riders, Frank and Theo Grose, were in town over the weekend, having ridden down on Friday; Theo intends staving until after the 50-Mile. The O.A.C.C. teams to compete for the Teacher’s Gup are as follows:—B team- Smart, Greenfield, Paterson, Kewish. Seque, E. Fletcher. A team; Gray, M'Gregor, H. Fletcher, Hamilton, Blair, Wilson.
