(From Our Own Correspondent.) BALCLUTHA, September 20 MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

At the Magistrate’s Court to-day, before Mr H. J. Dixon, 8.M., Andrew George Bayliss, plumber, of Dunedin, was charged with taking a three-gallon jar of beer into the no-licenae district of Clutlm without an order signed by the consignee, and ■with failing to notify the vendor that the liquor was intended for a no-license district. —Sergeant Boulton (Dunedin) prosecuted, and there was no appearance of defendant.—Sergeant Boulton said a team of footballers from Dunedin had taken the beer to a seven-a-side football tournament at Balclutha, and when caught in the act of consuming the beer had stated they did not know they were contravelling the law, and had freely admitted the circumstances. —Defendant was convicted and ordered to pay costs (10s) on each charge. . _ Mary Jane Owens, of Kaitangata, was charged with delivering to William Roger Owens, of Kaitangata. a package containing wine, the said package not bearing on the outside a plain statement that it contained liquor.—Mr C. J. L. White appeared for defendant, who pleaded not guilty.—Sergeant Boulton said that tor some time a Rood many bottles of homemade wine had been leaving the house of defendant. On the night of August ?, while a dance was in progress in Jvaitangata, the local policeman saw a boy of 18 with two bottles of elderberry wine, which was afterwards found to contain over 20 per cent, of proof spirit.—Mr White said the onus rested with the police to prove that a package was delivered. These two bottles of wine were sent as a matter of fact to her own son—After evidence had been heard the magistrate said he had power to dismiss the case under section 92 of the Justices of the Peace Act as trivial and he would dismiss the case accordingly. John Walker, of Dunedin, charged with driving a motor .truck in John street without rear number plates, was fined 10s, and costs (10s); Louis Newburn of!
