STRESS OF WEATHER
SMALL VESSEL SEEKS SHELTER
(Per United Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, September 20. A report was received in Wellington this afternoon that a small vessel, which was believed to be in distress, had been sighted two or three miles off Paekakariki Beach attempting to beat up under the lee of Kapiti Island. A heavy nor’wester was blowing, and a strong sea was. running. Later the vessel was reported to have run under Kapiti into shelter. The vessel is probably the auxiliary schooner Huanui, of 144 tons, with coal from Greymouth for Foxton. She had been standing off Foxton for two days unable to work the bar, and with the wind freshening it was probably decided to run down the coast to Kapiti for shelter.
