METHODIST CENTRAL MISSION

ANNUAL SPRING FAIR The annual spring fair in aid of the Methodist Central Mission trust funds was opened yesterday afternoon by-Mrs H. H. Johnson, secretary of the trust. The fair, which compared favourably with previous efforts, will be continued this afternoon and evening. At the opening ceremony Miss N. Davidson contributed a solo. Last evening the members of the Bible classes gave a humorous play. This afternoon Miss Shiela Neilson's pupils will contribute items, and the Bible class members will provide the programme this evening. A baking competition created considerable interest, and prizes were awarded as follows:—Miss King (marble .cake), Mrs Doig (plain sponge, butter sponge, and chocolate sponge), Miss V. Hamilton (shortbread), Mrs Drvsdale (plain scones), Mrs Duncan (pikelets), and Mrs Pinfold (nut bread). The following are in charge of the stalls:—Cakes, Mrs Mareth and Mrs Doig; sweets, Mrs Irvine; preserves, Mrs Johnson; jumble, Mrs Coulter; apron, Mrs Williams; work, Mrs Neale; groceries, Mrs Smallman; vegetables, Mrs Dawson; flowers and plants, Miss Brown and Mrs M'Farlane; fancy goods, Miss M'Gregor; variety stalls and competitions, members of Bible classed; tea rooms, Mrs Chapman and choir members. NORTH-EAST VALLEY METHODISTS. A profitable spring fair was held on Wednesday in the North-East Valley Methodist Sunday School Hall. The decorations were in- spring colours. Refreshments were obtainable from a buffet and hot peas were sold in the evening. An original soft toy competition was won by Mrs Holmes ("Dismal Desmond"). The stallholders were as follows:—Cakes, Mrs Thomson and Mrs Walls; work, Mrs Foot; art, Mr H. M'Nee; buffet, Mrs Gillies and Mrs N." C. Gibbs; produce and flowers, Mrs W.

Hancock and Mrs Pond; "Ye Sweet Toothe," Miss D. Hancock and Bible class girls; competition, Messrs A. M'Nee and W. Hanley.
