JENNINGS-TAYLOR BOWL WIN FOR NORTH ISLAND DENTISTS. Glorious weather prevailed for the yolf competition for the Jennings-Taylor Bowl, which was played at the St. Clair links yesterday afternoon between teams representing this North Island and South Island dentists at present in Dunediu in connection with the annual dental conference. The complete absence _of wind, the bright sunshine, and the excellent conditions of both greens and fairways, the former being particularly good,* made playing conditions extremely attractive, and some excellent rounds were recorded as a result. The contest consisted of four-ball matches between the two teams, while a Singles Competition was conducted simultaneously, the result being a narrow win for the North Island representatives by nine matches to seven. The following are the results (North Island players mentioned first in each contest) : FOUR BALL. W. Irwin and M'Dougall beat Brewer and Holmes; Paulin and N. Irwin beat Rcece and Wilkinson; Hewat and Hunter beat A'Court and Burt; Welch and Cox lost to Fogg and Hanan; Muir and O'Meara beat Reilly and M'Caugban; Bramwcll and Wise lost to Dallas. North Island, four matches: South Island, two matches. SINGLES. M'Dougall beat Brewer; \V. Irwin lost to Holmes; Paulin beat Reece; N. Irwin beat Wilkinson; Hewat beat A'Court; Hunter lost to Burt; Cox lost to Fogg; Welch lost to Hanan; Muir beat Reilly; O'Meara lost to M'Caughan. North Island, five matches; South Island, five matches. Total: North Island 9 matches, South Island 7 matches. The North Island dentists thus hold the Jennings-Taylor Bowl for the ensuing year. Lawrence (Auckland) defeated E. M. Hutchison (Gishorne) 2 and 1. The final was well contested, Hutchison, who is usually reliable on the green, proving uncertain and hesitant. This weakness lost him the match. In the second division H. B. Armitage (Waiuku) Avon the secretary's trophy by defeating G. Scott (Hutt), 5 and 4.
