FIRES
DWELLING DESTROYED A five-roomed wooden dwelling m Short street, Burnside, was totally destroyed by fire early yesterday morning. The house was not occupied, the flames had a firm hold when the Green Island and South Dunedin Brigades arrived shortly after 0.30 a.m. By that time portion of the roof had collapsed and the fire was burning so fiercely that tie firemen's efforts were of no avail. . lie building soon became a heap oi smouldering ashes. The house was owned by Mr \ Scoultar, of Ravensbourne. No particulars regarding insurance are available. FALSE ALARM. \t 1.42 p.m. yesterday the City Brigade turned out in response to an alarm registered from Messrs John Chambers and Sons' premises at the corner ot Stuart and Cumberland streets. It was found that an automatic false alarm had been registered.
