DAMAGE NOT EXTENSIVE FAST TRIP TO WELLINGTON. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, September 0. The Eangatira went near breaking her record on the trip up last night. She left Lyttelton at 11.15 p.ra v and was berthed at Wellington at 7.55 c.m. Her steaming time was Bhr 26min, *ompared with her record of Bhr ICmin. A further investigation of the hull of the vessel was carried out by a diver to-day. A large number of people watched the operations at the Ferry wharf. The Union Company announces that no damage has been suffered other than that announced yesterday. The vessel is not affected beneath the waterline and will not be withdrawn from service for repairs till October 8, the time originally scheduled for her annual overhaul. The Minister of Marine (Mr J. G. Cobbe) stated to-day that there would be the usual preliminary inquiry by the Marine Department, under the Shipping and Seamen’s Act, into the circumstances of the mishap to the Eangatira at Lyttelton yesterday morning.
