SHIP AUCKLAND
A meeting of the committee which arranged for the successful reunion of the passengers and descendants of the ship Auckland from 1874 onwards was held on Tuesday night. There were present Messrs T. M. Gillies (chair), Ford, Weaver, J. Robertson, John Torrance, M'Lennan, Murray, Brown and T. Begg, Mesdames Gillies, Poole, Wren, Mitchell and Arnold. The balance sheet for the social' and dance was very satisfactory, the receipts and expenditure would, when a few outstanding subscriptions were collected, result in a small profit. The chairman and other passengers congratulated Messrs G. Robertson and Weaver on their arrangement of the programme and the dance, and also congratulated the secretary, Mr T. Begg, on his efforts. The secretary was instructed to thank Mr J. J. Mallard, president of the Early Settlors’ Association, for his inspiring address and for the facilities given by the association for holding the reunion. Reference was made to the excellent address given by the Rev. W. A. Stevely at the church service in First Church. '
