WAITERS AND TIPPING
The association of Hungarian waiters lias petitioned the Lord Mayor of Budapest to abolish tipping. They argue that the system of tipping is demeaning to the waiters and disadvantageous to the tourist traffic, and demand .that tlie_ system or one waiter to one customer be introduced. According to present fashion three waiters serve every customer. The association demands a weekly salary of 14 shillings and 10 per cent, ot the daily takings of the restaurant or cafe. They also demand that closing time shall be advanced from 2 o clock to midnight, and that on Sundays and holidays all restaurants shall open only at mid-day. so that waiters may attend divine service.
