WRESTLING
GEORGE WALKER v. COUNT VARGA. The season's wrestling has brought to light three men who all have a fair chance of beating the champion, George Walker, whose successful run over three seasons is nothing less than remarkable. Undoubtedly Walker is a champion in all senses of the term. There is no need to labour his qualifications, for the Dunedin wrestling public has had them displayed this season more than once. Varga, Mamos, and the youthful Rumberg, all of whom have been seen in action in Dunedin —Mamos last season and "Varga and Rumberg this seasonare in the running for the New Zealand championship, which goeg at the end of the season to the most successful individual wrestler. Varga is a product of the old Graco-Roman school, and there is perhaps no better wrestler than the Austrian in the Dominion to-day His battle with Walker will be one of wits and strength, and when they meet on Saturday an unusually good contest should be witnessed They have met three times, and it is as yet only the most sanguine of followers who would say who is the better man. WALKER DEFEATS CLARK. (Per United Press Association.) MASTERTON, September 5. Before a packed house George Walker defeated Jack Clark by two falls to one after a strenuous but for the most part colourless contest. Clark gave an improved display, but was no match for 'lis burly opponent once the latter started wrestling in earnest. Clark secured the first fall early in the third round with a body press, and Walker evened in the sixth with a press following a dump. The bout ended early in the next session, when Walker rendered Clark groggy with head chanceries to gain the deciding fall with a combination body press.
