The following Is the official weather forecast:— An anti-cyclone covers the Tasman Sea and New Zealand. A slight low pressure wave is now moving on to Tasmania. Indications are for: Winds—South-easterly to southerly north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura, strong in exposed positions, otherwise light to moderate; elsewhere variable,- later becoming northerly in and south of Cook Strait. Seas—New Zealand waters—Bather rough between Castlepoint and East Cape, elsewhere smooth to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea—Light to moderate variable winds, shortly tending northerly and freshening in southern portions; seas smooth to moderate. The Union Company advises that the Walnut is scheduled to leave Melbourne to-day for Bluff and Dunedln. She is due at this port on Tuesday next, and will sail the same day for Lyttelton, Wellington, Bluff and Melbourne. NARBADA FROM CALCUTTA. The Union Company has received advice that the Indian trader Narbada passed Thursday Island on August 31. The vessel is due at Auckland from Calcutta and Intermediate Eastern ports on September 9 and will also discharge at Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru, Dunedin and Bluff. PORT HUNTER CLEARED PANAMA. Reported to have cleared Panama on August 28, the Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Hunter Is en route from London to Auckland, Wellington and New Plymouth. She Is scheduled to reach Auckland about September 17. TURAKINA AT LONDON. Cable advice has been received by the Federal Company that tho Turaklna reached London on the morning of August 30 from New Zealand. She left Auckland on July 24 for London, Avonmouth, Liverpool and Glasgow, via the Panama canal. " * CAMBRIDGE LEAVES CURACAO. > The Federal Company has received cable advice that the Cambridge, which left Wellington on August 2 for London, Avonmouth, Cardiff, Liverpool, and Glasgow, via the Panama canal, cleared Curaca.o on August 29. STIRLING POINT LIGHTED BUOY. The Bluff Harbour Board reports that Stirling Point lighted buoy has been removed for overhaul and has been replaced by a black conical unllghted buoy. MOTOR SHIP PORT CHALMERS. Port Chalmers will be the name of the motor cargo liner now being built for the Commonwealth and Dominion line, according to advice received by the local agents of the company. The new ship will be of 11,250 tons deadweight capacity, and her principal dimensions are: — Length, 486.6 feet; beam, 65.3 feet; depth, 43.10 feet; draught, 29.10 feet. Two Barclay, Curle-Doxford engines will develop 7500 brake horse-power at 96 revolutions a minute, and give the i Port Chalmers a speed of about 16 knots. She will have six holds, and will be fitted with limited passenger accommodation. It is expected that she will be In commission early next year. \ PERSONAL ITEMS. Mr T. Davis has Joined the Waimarino as second officer, relieving Mr N. H. Pearson, who has gone to the Poolta in a similar capacity, In place of Mr S. E. Ward. Mr J. C. During the summer the ferry service between Wellington and Lyttelton is to be maintained by .the Rangatlra and the Wahine while the Maori' is laid up at Wellington. The Wahine, which is at present undergoing her" annual survey at Wellington, will relieve the Rangatira for a short period while that ship Is laid up for overhaul and survey before tho summer. The Rangatlra will arrive at Wellington on Sunday, October 8, and will not resume her running until Friday, October 20. The Wahine will make her first sailing from Wellington on Monday, October 9, arriving at Lyttelton on Tuesday, October 10, and will run with the Maori until the Rangatlra is ready again on October 20. Arriving at Wellington on the morning of October 20, the Wahine will remain In port until the following night, when she will sail In place of the Maori, which is to be laid up in Wellington until next winter.
