WEST HARBOUR COUNCIL

• MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the West Harbour Borough Council was held last night, and was attended by the Mayor (Mr T. H. Harridge) and Crg Smith, Venn, Kay, Asher, Rodger, George, and Robb. REPORTS OF COMMITTEES. The Finance Committee reported that the receipts for the month were £llß4 7s 9d. Accounts to be passed for payment amounted to £246 13s 4d. When these had been met the debit balance would be £824 4s 9d.—The report, was adopted. The Works Committee recommended that no parking of cars or vehicles be allowed within a chain on either side of White's and Pickerill's corners at Ravens-, bourne and that notices be erected defining this arpa.—The recommendation was adopted. ( GENERAL. Mr A. M'Kensie, secretary of the Sawyers' Bay School Committee, wrote asking for attention to the footpath from the station to the school gate.—The matter was left in the hands of the inspector. The clerk of the Waikouaiti County Council wrote-stating that the footpaths along the boundary between the borough ( and the county required about 24 yards of maintenance screenings. A request was made for half the cost. —It was decided to reply that the council was prepared to find half the cost of screenings for the footpath from Sawyers' Bay to the boundary of the main road, but not for the full distance. INSPECTOR'S REPORT. The inspector reported that the following work had been done during the month: —The Junction road and the road from Ravensbourne to Sawyers' Bay had been repaired. District and Prospect roads (Roseneath), the footpath to Sawyers' Bay, the footpaths in Scotland street and other parts, the District road at Maloney's, and the, footpaths at Burkes had received Work was proceeding on the new road at Maia, and the clearing up of the reserve was almost finished. Several men were engaged in clearing gorse"" and broom. Montague street and Harbour terrace were being improved. The work on the Main road was still in hand, and a great deal of rock had had to be quarried for Harbour terrace and other parts. The tar sealing where it was broken was being patched and repaired. The following work passed by the council had still to be done: — Drains«at Sullivan's, Ascog road, Wilson's, Burkes (2)j and Tunnel Hill; widening of the road at Sullivan's, and repairs to Castle street. The two last-named works should be commenced this month. A new road had also to be formed at Maloney's. The report was approved.
