HARRIERS

Club harrier runs were conducted as follows on Saturday afternoon: MORNINGTON. Mornington ran from Albany Street School. The pack, with I. Chirnside in command, ran along Leith street, thence on to Signal Hill road. Having reached the trig station, the pack began the descent, and, after negotiating much gorge and mud, arrived at St. Leonards. The pack then divided, about a dozen forming a fast pack under F. Sanders. A steady run was commenced, and when Logan Park was reached a fair distance separated the slow pack from th'e automatically formed extra slow. T. Kennedy led in, closely followed by A. Davys and R. Roxburgh. R. Lamb was prominent in the third pack. The fast pack covered the distance at a steady clip, the run home resulting in L. Rackley being first and E. Mullin, who challenged from some distance back, second. NORTHERN AND CARGILL ROAD. The Northern and Cargill Road Clubs ran from Cargill road. The combined pack, under the whistles of Captain Harman (Cargill Road) and Captain MTvinlay (Northern) proceeded direct to St. Clair Beach, where the packs struck the sand and carried on to St. Kilda, where two packs were formed, one proceeding via Lovers’ lane . and the other by way of the beach to Tomahawk, where both packs met. Here a half-hour was spent in a game of Soccer on the sand. The' packs afterwards started on the journey home, up Tomahawk road and thence along Victoria road to Moreau street. From here the whistle was given for the run home, and a fast clip was set for a start till the pack strung out, and Norman Thomson (Cargill Road) forged ahead in front of A. Jackson (Northern), followed by F. Harkness and R. M'Kinlay, this order being maintained to the finish. HANOVER BAPTIST. Running from the Sunshine Baptist Mission, Hanover Baptists had a strong muster, and a good outing was enjoyed under Captain S. C. Gibson and Deputy G. M. Meggett. Taking the short cut to the Low road to Portobello, the packs followed the road for some miles. The slow pack left the road earlier and indulged in a good deal of cross-country work, while the fast pack went almost to Macandrcw Bay. Leaving the road, some stiff climbing was put in to come out about a mile above the monument on the HighclifF road. A good steady run was held back to the hall, Captain Gibson giving the,whistle for home at the Anderson's Bay tram terminus, where the pace was cracked on, resulting in Craig leading Brown home, with W. Lancaster next. Finishing earlier, the slow pack came h*me in a bunch. DUNEDIN. The Dunedin Club ran from Maori Hill, where a good muster was present. They started, under the whistle of the deputy captain, along Highgate to the Drive, which was followed past the Stuart street tram line to Hawthorne avenue. The trail then led down Stone street and on to the Valley load past the Roslyn M,ills. The Taieri road was followed to Nairn street and up Chapman street. After some good work had been indulged in, they proceeded up Lynn street on to Higlmate. After this road had been followed for a short distance a fast run home resulted in J. Lorimer, C. Healy. and R. Wealhorston finishing in that order. ST. PATRICK’S. St. Patrick's ran from St. Patricks School. Macandrcw road. Probable entrants in the Marathon were taken down the Bay road by Captain Lemon, the runners keeping well together. The slow pack's trail led along Fingall street, following the road to St. Kilda. thence^ along past T'ahuna. and keeping to the Tomahawk road till the beach was reached. Here the members indulged in practice with the discus as well as having a relay race on the sand. The Tomahawk road was taken homewards as far as the Cemetery, the pack then branching into Lover’s Lane. From St, Kilda a fair pace was set back to the school, the pack being well spread out over the final stretch.
