“ROPE”

The productions of Mr Reg. Tapley are well-known to the Dunedin theatregoing public. Another of his plays will be seen in His Majesty’s Theatre on Friday and Saturday next, when the Otago University Literary and Dramatic Society will represent “ Rope.” From the capable pen of Patrick Hamilton, “ Rope ” was obviously written in order to give the public something, bettor and more worthy of the name “ drama ” than what is usually known as a mystery thriller. It is a thoroughly meritorious piece of dramatic art ami technique. The cast is the best that could bo picked from the talent available in the University. It contains Geoffrey Flavell, Russell Napier, Lester Moller, Ewing Stephenson, Jule O’Kane, Leicester Aitken, Margot Garrett, and Maurice Joel. The audience may be assured of an uninterrupted opening scone, which is one of extreme dramatic suspense. The doors are to be barred for a quarter of an hour, and all latecomers rigidly excluded. “Rope” has already had a successful run in New Zealand. It has been presented by several amateur societies with very encouraging results.
