WRESTLING

RUMBERG DEFEATS PEREIRA. (Per United Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, August 6. Rumberg defeated Pereira by a fall in the seventh round in the brightest wrestling bout seen in Taranaki for some time. The men were well matched, Pereira probably having a lead on points when Rumberg jumped on him and crushed him to the mat. There was very little showmanship, but a great deal of good, hard wrestling. The eighth round was a desperate one in which Pereira failed in a great endeavour to retrieve the lost bout.

MAMOS DEFEATS PATTERSON. (Per United Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, August 6. Mamos 14.3 defeated Patterson 16.0 in the Town Hall last night before a crowded bouse. Patterson, whose weight advantage was evident in the early rounds, secured a fall in the fifth witli a thunderbolt and beadlock. Mamos evened the score in the seventh round with a spectacular back loop slam. Patterson was groggy for the eighth when Mamos hurled him through the ropes several times. Finally Patterson failed to return to the ring and Mamos was declared the winner. It was found that Patterson had received slight spinal concussion, apparently the result of a slam. Both men used rough tactics, but the bout was popularly regarded as the best seen here for a long time despite instances of showmanship.
