BRITISH TREASURY BILLS

ALLOTMENT OF APPLICATIONS RECORD PERCENTAGE RATE (British Official "Ireless.) (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) RUGBY, August 4. Applications for Treasury bills to-day totalled £70,925,000. The amount allotted in hills at three months is £40,000,000. The average rate per cent, is 5s 4.95 d, which is a new record, and compares with 6s 11.68 d last week. REASON FOR LOW RATE. LONDON, August 5. (Received August 6, at 7 p.m.) The low average of discount of 5/4.95d per cent, per annum at which Treasury bills were sold by tender at yesterday's weekly sale is the result of abnormally easy conditions in the money market, due to the weight of money seeking employment and lack of alternative avenues for its use.
