PROFESSIONAL CONTESTS. (Per United Press Association.) , GISBORNE, August 4. In a professional boxing contest tonight before a crowded house, Johnny M'Kay (Gisborne) beat Harry Hughes (Hamilton) on points. Hughes was amateur light-weight champion last year, and was making his first appearance in the professional ranks. Ted Morgan, welter champion of New Zealand, defeated Gus Fitzmaurice (Gisborne), but the title was not involved. In the amateur contests, A. White (Gisborne) beat J. Wilkins (Palmerston North). W. Wallace (Hamilton) beat J. Clayton (Gisborne), and J. Thornton (Hamilton) beat S. Hatchett (Gisborne) , the referee stopping the bout.
