MILK DISTRIBUTION

POSITION IN AUCKLAND COUNCIL APPOINTS COMMITTEE. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, August 4. The City Council, by 13 votes to 5, resolved to approve the formation of a municipal milk council, and it appointed a committee to devise ways and means of setting up such a council. Those favouring this move asserted that men without a stake in the city were bringing milk 20 and 30 miles to the city and competing with established firms that had to observe awards and other conditions. Vendors who agreed before the Minister of Industries and Commerce at a recent conference were now- fighting one another. Some farmers were getting such a small return that they were unable to reinforce their herds or feed them properly. The Deputy Mayor (Mr A. J. Entrican), who presided, said a change of policy was involved, and notice of motion should he given. It would be time enough for the council to step in when the trade could not settle its difficulties. How-over, amendments designed to postpone the decision were rejected, and the committee was appointed.
