For the first time since the inception of the contests in 1929 John M'Glashan College defeated St. Andrew’s College, in the annual match played at St. Andrew’s College to-day. The scores were: M'Glashan College 19, St. Andrew’s College 14. The weather conditions were ideal and the play at times reached a high standard. The home team*was perhaps unlucky to lose for it showed more in* , itiative than its opponents, whose scores were more the result of individual brilliancy than combined team play. Both teams threw the ball about, St. Andrew’s College having the greater share in the first half and towards the end of the game, but the tackling at critical moments was unusually good and the efforts of the home team at the finish made little progress. The scoring was opened within a minute of the kick-off, the St. Andrew’s College backs going into attack with a . fast passing rush. DougalT gained ground with a strong run along the line, passing in to the forwards for Price to score near the posts. The kick missed. St. Andrew’s College 3, M'Glashan College nil. A good kick by Stevenson placed M'Glashan College in a good position on St. Andrew’s line and Ramsay just failed to get across. A free kick brought play hack to halfway. M'MHlan broke through in the loose and kicked ahead to a clear field, but he attempted: to pick up and spoilt a good opportunity. M'Glashan College opened several promising movements but they broke down through bad handling. An infringement on St. Andrew’s twenty-five line resulted in Lambert kicking a neat penalty goal. St. Andrew’s College 3, M'Glashan College 3. Le Lievre and Dougall were prominent in a rush on the blind side, but a forward pass to Dougall stopped play when he had a clear run in. Fast forward play to St. Andrew’s line followed, and Gray fought his way over the line well out. The kick missed.

Fast following up from the kick-off held play in M'Glashan College’s twentyfive, and from a penalty for holding on in a scrum Forrester kicked

a goal. A clever cut-in by le Lievre put St. Andrew’s College on attack after a period of defence. M'Millan carried on, but his pass was not accepted. Dougall secured near halfway and broke through several tackles with a fast, determined dash to score at the corner. The try was not converted. St. Andrew’s College backs were soon on attack again, Jones and Dougall going down the blind side, Dougall went across, but was called back for a forward pass. Half time wms called with the scores unchanged.

For the first 10 minutes on the resumption of the game St. Andrew’s College was kept on the defensive, but the M'Glashan College backs had .not sufficient penetration to finish off their movements. After forcing twice St. Andrew's College worked into the opposition's territory. Gray just failed to score after a 40 yards’ dash down the line, and M’Glashan College forced. The St. Andrew’s College backs set up a good passing rush, but Ramsay intercepted at halfway, outpaced the opposing wing and beat the full-back with a swerve to score well out. Lambert converted with a fine kick to put M'Glashau College ahead. M'Glashan College opened up another attack a few minutes later and Stevenson finished off the movement by scoring a few yards from the corner flag. Lambert converted with an excellent kick.

St. Andrew’s attacked hotly and finally Dougall scored a good try at the corner. Forrester’s kick just crossed the bar. Both teams were playing fast, open football, the St. Andrew’s College boys particularly doing their utmost to score. Beginning many attacks from the defensive the backs met solid tackling and could not make much ground. A few minutes before time M‘Glashan College made more certain of tbeir win when Lambert kicked a goal after an infringement in the scrum. The game ended with the scores:
