MR R. J. ADAMS AUSTRALIAN SPORTING WRITER. SYDNEY, July 31. The death is announced of Mr R. J. Adams, sporting editor of the Labour Daily, aged 57. He married Miss Hilda Bright, of Canterbury. | MR MOORE SYKES LONDON, July 30. The funeral will take place at Hudderstield. Cemetery on August 1 of Mr Moore Sykes, manager of the dyestuffs section of Imperial Chemical Industries, Australia and New Zealand. He died of heart failure aboard a train while crossing America. SIR WILLIAM PAKENHAM The death is announced of Admiral Sir William Pakenham. Admiral Sir William Pakenham, who was born in 1861, entered the navy in, 1874. He served in the European War from 1914 to 1917, commanded the battle cruiser fleet from 1917 to 1919, was commander-in-chief of North America and West Indies station from 1920 to 1922, and was placed on the retired list in 1926.

Whose death at th.e age of 83 years was announced last week. Since his return to Dunedin 40 years ago he acted as collector for many local institutions and occupied positions of trust. He liberated the first starlings in Southland and was also instrumental in introducing the perch into Southland waters. He was at the opening of the present First Church.

. MR A. G. HILL (Pes United Peess Association.) WELLINGTON, July 31. The death is announced of Mr A. G. Hill, a middle-aged man, a member of the firm of Messrs Hill and Plummer, of Auckland. He collapsed in Customhouse quay this morning, and died almost immediately. DR J. T. PINFOLD (Pee United Peess Association.) WELLINGTON, July 31. The death of the Rev. Dr James Thomas Pinfold, M.A., D.D., the well-known Methodist minister, occurred at his residence yesterday morning. > Dr Pinfold, who was in his' seventy-ninth year, was for the past 12 years secretary of the Wellington Ministers' Association. Among the various circuits occupied by Dr Pinfold were those of Mosgiel and Roslyn. The deceased was the author of several publications, including one dealing with the Book of Psalms and .another with the Gospel of St. Luke, in addition to an autobiographical work entitled "Fifty Years of Maoriland." He was also responsible for the compilation a few years ago of the Methodist Index. The degree of doctor of divinity was conferred on him by the Montreal Wesleyan University. MR JOHN DOUGLAS RITCHIE (Per United Peess Association.) WELLINGTON, July 3L The death is announced of Mr John Douglas Ritchie, formerly land purchase controller; aged 80. Mr Ritchie, who was born in Scotland in 1853, was educated at the Perth Academy, and arrived in New Zealand in 1877. He was a nephew of Mr John Douglas, of Mount Royal Station, tfnd during the early years of his manhood lie was engaged oh that estate, acting as manager for a number of years. •Mr Ritchie joined the public service in 1891 as chief inspector of stock, and in the following year he was appointed secretary of agriculture on the formation of that department. In 1909 he accepted the position of land purchase controller, and he held this until his retirement in 1927. MR F. T. TOURELL The death of Mr Frank Thomas Tourell occurred in the Auckland Hos-. pital recently following an operation. Mr Tourell, who was 36 years of age, was educated at the Christian Brothers' Scbool, Dnnedin, and for many years had been on the field staff of the Government Life Insurance Department. For several years his health had been poor, a motor cycle accident having caused serious complications. As a professional runner Mr Tourell achieved a great deal of success, being in his prime among the fastest sprinters in the Dominion. He was also keenly interested in Association football and was for some years a member of the Civic Band in Invercargill. His tact, cheerfulness and integrity won him a large number of friends, and the department which he served had few more zealous officers. He married a daughter of Mr A. R. Wills, of Invercargill, and she and three young children survive him. . .
