PORT CHALMERS NEWS
PERSONAL At the close of the morning service in the Port Chalmers Presbyterian Church on Sunday, the Rev. J. D. Salmond, youth director of the Presbyterian Church juvenile activities in the Dominion, presented long service diplomas to the following Sunday school teachers, whose periods of service were notable:—Miss C. Johnstone, daughter of the first Presbyterian minister at Port Chalmers, 48 years' service, and still on the active list; Miss J. Tait, 34 years' service; Mrs R. Young (Miss M. Menelaus), 45 years' service; Mr John Tait, 45 years' service, 20 years of that period as Sunday school superintendent. The presentations were made on behalf of the Presbyterian General Assembly. GOLF CLUB • The final of the Port Chalmers Golf Club men's championship was played on the Sawyer's Bay links on Saturday afternoon under ideal conditions. The final was between H. Watson and P. Hunter, and Watson won after a most exciting game. In the semi-final of the ladies' championship Mrs Allan defeated Mrs Fletcher, last year's holder, by 9—7. Mrs Fletcher played much below her usual form. Mrs Allan will meet Miss Margaret Wilson in the final.
