AN AMBULANCE FEE
MAN REFUSES TO PAY GAOL THE ALTERNATIVE. k (Pee United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 5. "It is not often we have cases like this one before the court,” said Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., when James Brown appeared on summons and pleaded guilty to a charge of attempting to board a trnmear, while in motion. Detective Sergeant M'Hugh said that Brown missed his footing while endeavouring to board a moving tramcar aad fell, receiving head injuries. He was removed to hospital by ambulance, and remained in hospital for three days. Brown refused to pay the ambulance fee. which was ss. “ Does he? ” remarked the magistrate. “He will be convicted and ordered to pay costs (16s). plus 5s ambulance fee.” Brown: I can’t pay 2ls, sir, Mr Hunt: Well, you will take it out if you don’t. That’s all.
