A GENERAL CLEAN-UP THOUSANDS OF DISMISSALS (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) BERLIN, July 5. (Received July 5, at 9 p.m.) Official figures show that the municipal authorities in 1C out of 20 districts in Berlin have dismissed 1700 officials and 500 workmen for being Jews, Marxists or Pacifists. The German People’s Party, which was founded by Dr Strcsemann in 1919, but was practically extinguished at the last election, has dissolved itself. The Government lias decreed the cancelling of the licenses of all members of the Berlin Bourse from September 30 after which applicants will be subject to examination, with a view to the rejection of unfavoured elements. ' (Received July 5, at'9 p.m.) Herr von Tschammer und Osten, the Reich Commissioner of Sport, addressing representatives of German gymnastic and athletic clubs, said the main object of such clubs in future would be “ wehrsport,” literally the “ sport of arms,” and youngsters, instead of hiking, would go to the shooting range. (Received July 5, at 9 p.m.) The Daily Mail’s Berlin correspondent says that the result of the census taken on June 1(1 shows that the population of Germany is 65,300,000, an increase of 2,700,000 since June, 1925. The males number 31,700,000, and the females 33,000,000.
